  • San Diego Habitat for Humanity

SDHFH is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that offers families in need a hand up, not a handout. By building homes in partnership with families in need, SDHFH seeks to eliminate poverty housing and substandard living conditions in San Diego County, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

SDHFH selects families on the basis of housing need, willingness to partner with Habitat and ability to repay the mortgage loan. The families receive a 20-year, 0%-interest mortgage. Mortgage payments received from homeowners are directly recycled to build more homes in San Diego County for low-income families.

Habitat homeowners gain self-respect as they work alongside volunteers to construct their homes. Homeowner families are chosen according to their need; their ability to repay the no-profit, affordable mortgage; and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Since 1976, over 350,000 houses have been built worldwide for more than 1.75 million people. Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate according to race, religion or ethnic group.

San Diego Habitat builds homes using:

    • Tax-deductible contributions of land, materials and money.
    • Volunteer labor, almost all of the labor we use is volunteers. Keep that in mind, and it makes the miracle even greater!

    • "Sweat equity" labor of homeowner families. Instead of a cash down payment, potential homeowners give us 500 hours of labor per family. This sweat equity can be applied to the construction of their own home, the construction of homes for others, assisting on ReStore activities, or other Habitat projects. This keeps the help and goodwill in circulation! Plus, future homeowners learn hands-on how to maintain and fix their homes!

The Retirement Group and the TRG Team proudly support San Diego Habitat for Humanity.

  • Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. The Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest.

Families are stronger when they are together, which helps in the healing process. By staying at a Ronald McDonald House, parents also can better communicate with their child’s medical team and keep up with complicated treatment plans when needed. They can also focus on the health of their child, rather than grocery shopping, cleaning or cooking meals.

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children.
Ronald McDonald House Charities core values are:

  • Focusing on the critical needs of children.
  • Celebrating the diversity of the programs offered and the staff, volunteers and donors who make them possible.
  • Staying true to their heritage of 35 years of responsible stewardship.
  • Operating with accountability and transparency.
The Retirement Group and the TRG Team proudly support Ronald McDonald House Charities.

    • Just In Time for Foster Youth

Just In Time for Foster Youth (JIT) provides emancipated foster youth with opportunities for self-sufficiency through emergency support, essential resources, and caring personal guidance at critical junctures on their path to independence.

JIT intervenes at critical junctures when a little help can make the difference between a perilous and a promising young life. It is the only volunteer-driven organization in San Diego to assist all former foster youth with is the resources needed to ensure school, job, and life success.

Although they may receive subsidized housing or scholarships from other sources, former foster youth lack essential resources. JIT steps in with the daily ingredients a family might offer: immediate emergency financial aid, basic home furnishings and, most importantly, the continuous personal connection essential to long-term results.

That’s why they focus on all former foster youth, regardless of other program participation — as long as they are striving for self-sufficiency by attending college/vocational school and/or working a significant number of hours.

The Retirement Group and the TRG Team (John Jastremski, Jeremy Keating, Erik Larsen, Frank Esposito, Brent Wolf, Marvin King, Patrick Ray, and Robert Welsch) proudly support Just In Time for Foster Youth.
